Foods That Keep You Cool In The Summer

Fruits: Most fruits are cooling. Banana, cranberry, gooseberry, grapefruit, lemon, lime, melon, mulberry, permission, rhubarb and watermelon being the coolest. Apple, avocado, black current,blueberry, bilberry, kiwi, mango, orange, pear, strawberry and tangerine being second coolest.
One of my favourite things to snack on in the summer is a bowl of fruits. Sweet, juicy and cooling on those hot summer days or nights.
Vegetables: Most vegetables are cooling too if they are eaten raw. Coolest veggies are cucumber, dandelion leaf, mung bean sprout, nori, plantain, seaweed, tomato, and water chestnut. The second coolest veggies are alfalfa sprout, asparagus, aubergine, bamboo shoot, bok choy, broccoli, celery, chicory, chinese cabbage, courgette, daikon (mooli), endive, lettuce, marrow, mushroom (button), radish, spinach, squash (summer), swiss chard and water cress.
Now wonder why we crave more salads in the summer. Almost everything in the salad is cooling.
Healthy dinner suggestion: switch the cooked veggies for a garden or greek salad with a side of lean chicken, shrimp or crab.
Grains: Wheatgerm (gluten) is the coolest of the grains. Amaranth (gluten-free), barley (gluten), buckwheat (gluten-free), Job's Tears (gluten-free), kamut (gluten), Millet (gluten-free), wheat (gluten), wheat bran (gluten) and wild rice (gluten-free) are the second coolest grains.
Beans: Tofu is the coolest. Lima bean, mung bean and soy bean are second coolest.
Nuts and Seeds: Most nuts and seeds are neutral to warming. Here's a list of neutral nuts that won't warm you up - almond, coconut milk, hazel, flax, peanut, pistachio, pumpkin seed, sesame seed, and sunflower seeds.
Meats: Sheep liver and rabbit are the coolest sources of protein.
Fish: Clams (fresh and sea water) are the coolest, followed by crab, octopus, and frog being the second coolest.
Dairy: Yogurt is the coolest, and duck egg is the second coolest.
Cooling healthy breakfast recipe: take 3/4 cup Liberté Greek Coconut or Plain Yogurt. Mix 1/4 -1/3 cup of ground flaxseed. Add your choice of strawberries or blueberries.
Beverages: Dandelion root is the coolest, followed with beer, chamomile, chrysanthemum, edelflower, lemon balm, lime flower, peppermint, raspberry leaf and tea.
Herbes and Spices:Purslane is the coolest, followed by majoram, mint, nettle and tamarind having the second coolest properties.
Oils & Condiments: Agar and salt are the coolest. Sesame oil, soya sauce and kuzu are the second coolest.
As for supplements, Kelp helps with thyroid function and has the coolest temperature properties. Algae is the second coolest.
